Rain Rain Go Away

For some reason I fear I may have already posted about this--Rainy Day Attire.

It has been and plans onn continuing to rain here all week. Something about this is worse than cold, snow, etc to me--its very dreary. I have to say my Huntress boots really put a smile on my face though--there is something fun about knowing NO water will be splashing into my shoes as I tromp along.

The real problem lies not just in the footwear, but in the outfits as a whole. I find myself completely uninspired to plan outfits, accessorize, or think smartly about shopping my closet with the rain is pouring down. Every gray day makes me want to put on the Hunters and a turtleneck and jeans and call it a day. This Kristy-from-the-Babysitters-Club attire is not really advancing my styling work! In fact it makes me feel blah on an otherwise gloomy day.

How do you guys dress for wintry and wet weather? Do you ignore it and dress at your most fabulous? Or do you have a standard foul-weather uniform? Changes shoes from wellies to heels at the office?

Lets share some tips to get through March--it may be in like a lion and out like a lamb, but we can hopefully look put together throughout!

  1. OMG--Kristy from the Babysitter's Club--you are freaking hilarious--loved those darn books growing up.

:) I had an uninspired outfit today...I called it my lamest outfit of the day yet (guess bad weather does that to you).

  2. I loved the Babysitter's Club!!

I changed 3 times before going to the office today and was late on top of that. Nothing looked good so I don't think I'm going to be much help, but just wanted to chime in on the Babysitter's Club.

  3. I try to dress cute for the rain. Then I remember I have to put the boots on. I have no fashion tips. I end up in jeans as well. I've tried chinos and that just doesn't work w/the boots.

  4. Rain is hard. If it's cold, I go with boots and tights plus skirt or sweater dress. But I have the advantage of not having to be in an office. I would love it if someone has a great solution here.

  5. As a resident of the Pacific Northwest, I have this problem a lot. I second HeidiG's suggestion of knee high boots with tights and a sweater dress (and I do work in an office, albeit at a university, so we're a bit less formal than some). I also have discovered wonderful waterproof microfiber, high heel, mid-calf boots that are the perfect solution for wearing with pants on a rainy day. They're not inexpensive, but they're worth every penny!

  6. Totally off topic, but you mentioned that you had worn this sweater before: How is the cashmere alton henley? Cute and comfortable? Is the fit TTS? Is the coral too bright or a softer color? Sorry for the barrage of questions--any help you could provide would be very much appreciated.

  7. Lizard,

How about doing the boots with an otherwise cute outfit, and bringing a change of shoes to work? Then you can wear tights/skirt/top.

  8. The Baby sitters Club rocked. I have to agree with that. It's comforting to know others are struggling with what to wear with the weather. With rain or snow, I have no good suggestions. It's hard to look cute and stay dry. But today, even though it was cold, I made myself put on the Francie skirt, a cute cardi, and some boots and tights (like some of you suggested), and I did feel a lot better (and wasn't too cold either).

  9. Aw this whole post makes me sad sad. I've been wearing my hunters with literally every single thing I could get away with since middle school. Which makes me sound exactly like the babysitters club come to think of it, but I am mid twenties now and have five pairs of hunters and still maintain they make any outfit. Skirts and dresses and skinny jeans and tights and oh my! Also deliciously cute and preppy: duck boots. Dig the statement of big rubber boots ladies. Get yourself a cute macintosh and go with it.
